Happy New Year everyone! In this episode I bring you a podcast version of the bariatric surgery seminar I give twice monthly at Southern Oregon Bariatric Center. This version is more generic to bariatric surgery in general because my intent is not to tell you specifics about SOBC, but rather introduce you to important concepts regarding obesity and bariatric surgery that are relevant no matter where you live or what program you are joining.
Discussed in this episode:
- Obesity: The extent of the problem
- Why we become obese
- The misguided message of “eat less and exercise more”
- How and why bariatric surgery works
- Surgical options with a focus on Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass and Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy
- What issues can bariatric surgery help address and what can it not
As soon as I have the Youtube PowerPoint connected to this episode up and live I will let you know

Hi Reeger,
This is such a great episode — so great that I shared it on on of my Facebook support groups and on my blog as well. While listening to this one, I realized how much of my success to date can be attributed to ideas I got from your podcast – journaling, gratitude/affirmations, support systems, etc. I wanted to thank you again for keeping the information coming. It’s been so valuable as I go through my own journey and support new friends on their way.
Hi Marilyn, Thank you for reaching out and letting me know that the podcast has helped you. That’s always my goal and it is nice when I hear that this has been accomplished! I believe in you, Reeger
any luck with the power point / youtube?
Hi Jen, Yes, did you find it on my youtube channel? It is there. Let me know if you need to the link. Kindly Reeger
Good Morning Reeger,
I wanted to thank you for your service and passion for the community. I started listening to your podcasts last spring when I was gathering information about WLS. I was thoroughly undecided and just wanted to gather what I could before deciding. I was going through the program at Anne Arundel MC in Maryland and their program very closely mirrors your beliefs which calmed my nerves about getting into a good program for long term success. This months podcast was very good and contained more information than I think the AAMC program would have started with. I am OK with that because it led me to research more on my own and finding your pod.
Hi Greg, I am so glad you have found a program that feels like a good fit and that you found the podcast as a supplement to your educational needs. Thanks for reaching out and letting me know ;0) Reeger
